Attendance Expectations

HHJC 2022-2023 Attendance Policy: In order to maintain consistency throughout the program and discourage absences the demerit policy will be enforced during the entire cheerleading season (Football, Competition and Basketball) regarding absences.

*August 1 will be the deadline for submitting any game dates that the cheerleader may miss. These may be considered an
excused absence if provided by the deadline. This should be submitted in writing to the Squad Representative. This however
does not include vacations. Vacations are unexcused absences even if planned in advance.

A. Excused practices- if you are sick and out of school the day of practice, you are excused from practice. School related events are excused. However, all effort should be made to be at practice even if it is for 30 or 45 minutes before the school event takes place.
Example: Chorus concert is typically the same night as a practice. If you have to be at the school at 6:30 please come to practice for 45 min. or so and then go to the concert.
Deaths in the family are excused absences. Absences due to an immediate family member in military service being deployed or on leave from deployment will be excused. Any other reasons would be at the discretion of the Coach. In any event of a missed practice, please notify your Coach prior to the practice so they can be notified in a timely manner. All regularly scheduled doctors, orthodontic appointments, etc., should not be made at practice times and will not be considered excused.

B. Excused games- Sickness, deaths in family, school related trips are all excused. If you are sick, please notify the Coach as soon as you possibly can. Absences due to an immediate family member in military service being deployed or on leave from deployment will be excused. All regularly scheduled doctors, orthodontic
appointments, etc., should not be made at game times and will not be considered excused.

C. Rules and Coaches’ Rights
• Coaches reserve the right to assign consequences, including (but not limited to) demerits, squad or individual conditioning, being benched during a game and/or competition.
• Missing practice, even if it is excused, may result in not being included in the next game and/or skills performed at the next game. Coaches’ discretion will be used.
• Inability of a cheerleader to perform at the skill level of tryouts may result in consequences as severe as dismissal from the squad with approval from the Executive Board.
• A coach will wait with a cheerleader until the parent picks them up for 15 minutes without penalty. After the 15 minutes the cheerleader may be disciplined with a demerit.
• If a situation occurs for where there is no written rule, the coaches and/or Executive Board reserve the right to address the problem. This may result in disciplinary action and possible removal from the squad.
